I had a similar situation where some people were asking me whether I had a girlfriend or not because I as talking to this girl in my class, and that put pressure on me until I realize I didn't have to care about what people say (and no, she is not my girlfriend and never was, that was just part of my plan to be less lonely in class by talking to people).
