Re: The third administration: Welcome, dev & issue reports [downtime 2021-12-25 from 19:30 to 21:30 UTC]
Forum reopened as of 20:46 UTC. Board has been upgraded to phpBB 3.3.5, search index is being rebuilt. I still haven't investigated the continuing search issue thouroughly, so please let me know if it persists. Also the favicon seems to be gone, I should look into how that happened.

Re: The third administration: Welcome, dev & issue reports [unscheduled downtime 2021-11-21]
We had unscheduled downtime on 2021-11-21, for a few hours ending at around 12:00 UTC, and possibly more unscheduled downtime the day before. The issue was purely a networking one, the server itself is unaffected. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Re: The third administration: Welcome, dev & issue reports
Upgrade complete. Forum is now running phpBB 3.3.3. In the little testing I've been able to do it appears that, as a result, search is finally consistently functional, so that's a plus. The downtime went over the 20:00 UTC deadline by 10-15 minutes because of an unexpected issue, in the end, it seem...

Re: The third administration: Welcome, dev & issue reports
Alright, turns out the new forum version does address the search issue, in a way - it won't let me install it unless I fix the search issue first. This puts us essentially back to where we were before - I need to fix the package manager so I can get the mbstring module, the absence of which is the w...

Re: The new administration: Welcome, dev & issue reports (scheduled downtime for 2020-11-05 20:00 to 22:00 UTC)
Alright, after a slightly less stressful run at the update procedure it seems everything is working. The only asterisk is there's no version of the main forum style up to date to 3.3.1, but as yet this hasn't produced any visible issues, and I hope it will catch up soon. The forum should be freely u...

Re: The new administration: Welcome, dev & issue reports (scheduled downtime for 2020-11-05 20:00 - 22:00 UTC)
Ah, no - 2020-11-02 20:00 UTC was, at the time I'm writing this, just over two hours ago. Unfortunately, I was busy with other tasks for most of the downtime I'd scheduled, and in the 20-30 minutes I was actually able to devote to the forum upgrade, I wasn't quite able to sort out some errors I enco...

Re: The new administration: Welcome, dev & issue reports
I'm hereby scheduling downtime for 2020-11-02, from 20:00 to 22:00 UTC to update the forum software. I don't expect to take the full two hours to do it - ideally, it should take a few minutes at most - but I don't know when exactly tomorrow evening I'll be available to perform the update.

Re: The new administration: Welcome, dev & issue reports
Logs are considerably less illuminating than I had hoped, my best guess right now is a faulty PSU failed to supply power, causing the file system to fail until rebooted. Should probably replace it.

Re: The new administration: Welcome, dev & issue reports
On 2020-08-28 there was at least a few hours' downtime for unclear reasons, which I could not resolve without physically cycling power to the server machine, which is why it took comparatively long to resolve once I noticed. Cause unclear, but I'm hoping to take a dive in the logs today to see if I ...
