The skulls broke an unwritten rule about Submachine, how we haven't had any confirmed deaths so far. That changed as soon as we found the skulls.

Of course, the suit is open to interpretation, but I'm more interested in why we found so many skulls in the facility. You would think that the facility would probably be one of the safer places for humans to reside. BUt that didn't seem to be enough for...whatever was out there.

Well... Fuck the 8 Layers, they happen to be Infinite. Yeah, the part of people being trapped within their own Sub-Layer made it all make sence.
