I'd like to discuss "the Knot." I got started in the Physics of the Subnet theory discussion with the following:

The Knot is its own thing, not a part of the subnet me thinks. The layers have too little in common with what we see in the subnet, and the context of the story suggests we've left subnet space and are in a knot within a Karma portal.

Whatchya all think? I don't see much in common between the Knot of Sub8 and the subnet. Some layers resemble locations, but there seems a very different feel to me.

*I don't know if this thread is the best place for this convo, but I'm sure it's not bad*

But even the Loop was inside the SubNet. How did we get taken out of the SubNet, yet "The Plan" is a Submachine. (I mean, after all, it's titled "Submachine," so it must be a Submachine.)

How did the Explorers find it if it's not in the SubNet? Are you saying that the Knot is like a "bubble" off the SubNet? If each Layer is a copy of the SubNet as we know it, then The Plan must be inherent to the SubNet.

Your words enticed my imagination, I came up with this rather space time bending like scenario;

As you can see, it heavily draws from the black hole analogy;

I came up with this without consulting any sources though, so I might be completely in error.

Uhg... I think your right... now that I've spent a paragraph writing want amounts to yet another new theory! I've moved it to a new topic in the theories section. Well this is embarrassing...

I'm trying to follow your drawing... very rough. It IS interesting how you've made parallels with a black hole. The problem I see is that with a black hole your are bending one layer of reality into something like a cone.... oooh, wait...

We talk about pocket dimensions... it occurs to me that what that would look like is like a black hole in which the cone flares back out into a sphere, like an hour glass. Neat...

But to back up, the problem I see is that your talking about 7 layers, not just one that is stretched. I'm not sure it makes sense to simply put the other layers inside of the first layer that is stretched out. What is so special about that first stretched out layer? It seems more like we are dealing with 7 layers that are quilted together to form the Plan/Knot.

Yeah, it is rough, sorry about that  The idea was that the layers collide, stitching themselves together somewhat (somehow :| ). This has to start somewhere, I guess there is nothing special about the initial location of the original loop.

*scolds* I warned you in the Sub9 Thread :P

My original thought (which got lost due to both your posts coinciding over mine and Internet loss) was that you (Ant) were drawing out a scenario where each Loop, starting from Layer 1, narrowed as they deepened into the other Layers (since we know the Layers have been copied, each copy may have turned the Loops into a possibly four dimensional Black Hole stretching out across the Layers.)

But to get back to Sub8, where does the Knot fit in? (remember, we're on the Sub8 Thread) :P

The knot is but an analogy for the loops, is it not? You mean to ask how does this explain:
- Have you ever been to the place called the loop?
-Yes, of course.

-See, this knot is just like the loop. Well, maybe not exactly, but it serves the same purpose.

- In that case... What is so important in layer 5?...
I don't really know  Perhaps these "knots" between layers are to be cut (maybe like we disconnected from the loop) like Alexander did?

(I'll bbl) From that Note, Knots are *like* (too lazy for Italics right now) the Loop, but not exactly the same thing. The Loop =/= The Knot, so where does that drawing fit it? Thought you had an answer :P

Analogy of "cutting out of the Loop" - Very possible, maybe that *is* what the similarity is, and maybe RedAfro is somewhat right in saying that we're in a sort of area outside of the SubNet - Maybe even a *Loop* outside of the SubNet.

But a knot is essentially a loop on a string, not? Anyways, this post by Mateusz kinda clarifies it a bit:
you were going to layer 5.
on the way - you fell into the portal within the portal that changed your direction and threw you into the dimensional knot that you had to untie in order to move forward.
now ask me again, how sub8 mirrors sub3. -__-
The knot is the arrangement of the layers, and we untied it to move to Sub9. Or at least I understood that from this post.
