Hey, look on the bright side, it could have started off with an insurrection attempt.

For those who aren't up to date, Trump was impeached a second time by the House of Representatives on account of inciting the insurrection. Even though he's out of the White House, the Senate trial can still vote to convict or acquit him. If he's convicted, he'll be the first president in US history to be "removed" from office. The main consequence of this is that he will be barred from holding public office ever again, preventing a second term possibility in 2024.

In order for the Senate to convict, they need to do so by a 2/3rds majority, which will require somewhere around 15 Republican senators to be on board. It's uncertain how many will vote to remove him at this point.

That is right Jatsko.
If convicted he will also be stripped of his pension and Secret Service.
Meaning he will not waste the people tax dollars out of office.

Moreover, if he (In his delusional mind) decides to claim a 'new' oval office in Florida, he gets arrested.

Not exactly. By the language of he law on presidential pensions, according to this video, formers presidents get the full benefits unless they're removed from office by being impeached and convicted. It's a fairly small part of the wording, but the law effectively asks "How did the president's term end?", not "Was the president impeached and convicted?" and he was, in the end, allowed to serve his full term.

Also, apparently, the secret service protection and pension funds come from different laws, and the law providing secret service protection doesn't care about whether the president was impeached at all. This is probably a good thing, after all, even a criminal ex-president is likely to know a lot of classified information that could be used to harm other people if it were stolen by some malicious agent. And, ultimately, a functioning democracy can't tolerate violence against any former politicians, no matter their actions while in office, which this particular ex-president would be at high risk of.

Yeah, that is true Ancient Crystal.
But if impeached it sends a clear message.
You pull shit like this, your gonna face the consequences.

We don't 'pay' a criminal/average person after they get out of prison.
Granted there is probably local laws that do, but it is the precedence you set by allowing this go unanswered.
Saying a president can do whatever the hell he wants in the last month in office opens the door to a whole new set of chaos.

Of course. Impeaching and convicting is still the right thing to do, it just won't have that particular consequence.

A Dutch crime journalist, Peter R. De Vries died today after being shot at. It is the 4th time since the start of the century that in my country free speech is under attack. I am fucking pissed off, is it that hard to let people say things? And not to fucking kill other people? Apparently it is. I am so beyond pissed off and sick that this keeps happening.

I hear you Ko9, moreover the delusion these shooter think themselves into that somehow say they are "just" and their attack was "Righteous".
When in reality, a lone guy with whatever circumstance life handed too him left him alone with his thoughts for too long.
Frustration boiling over and in so doing the sin of killing, they kill off any chance they have of preserving their own self.

A fucking little man seeking to be a big man by this dumb as act of killing the one person who tick them off the wrong way.
A DESTRUCTIVE end to a sad little being.
