Has anyone read any Dostoevsky? I would be eager to the point of absurdity to discuss Crime and Punishment, The Brothers Karamazov or The Idiot if anyone knows much about them. I'd really like to talk about The Idiot the most though, because I am in the midst of rereading it.

I've read Crime and Punishment, as well as The Idiot.
I enjoyed them both, but I think I have to reread them sometime. They have so many topics in them, so I probably missed some during my first read. I think it's a sign of a good book, that the book makes you want to read it again.

I heard that The Subtle Knife gets really explicitly religious, and, if you hadn't realized it while reading the earlier books, it is really weird. I've never read any of those books myself though.

Yeah, it's pretty religious, but it's not like I mind it, it's overly dystopian.

I read those books. The final book especially... well I won't spoil it for you. The religious themes sort of left me with a bitter aftertaste after reading the final one.

Don't get me wrong, they're good books, but it just felt kinda sneaky to put those themes in a book marketed marketed at teens and young people.

I got the same problem with the Twilight series.

The Story makes absolutely no senses. Werewolves that can transform in the middle of the day, a girl who vampire is her boyfriend? Granted Dracula himself had 3 wives but he still turn them into vampires.
Even that guy who is a werewolf won't keep his shirt on when he human, the fight can be over with if one of the boyfriend just bite her and turn her into one of them. She was a depress girl who was going to kill herself in the beginning. If I was a vampire or a werewolf, that would be my next perfect victim, she wants to be "dead" so why not just grant it to her.

There was a quote by Stephen King in which he compared Harry Potter and Twilight – Twilight was not shown in positive light.

It was actually attributed to King even though he didn't say it, but whatever, I think we can all agree Twilight isn't the greatest book/series

Not only content-wise, but also language-wise – such words as: very, really, big etc. ("lazy words" as my English teacher calls them) are used in those books (or according to the short 2-page extract I read)
