Google says it's the amelia sequence, that was invented for a show or something.
EDIT: and it draws some relations, but I don't know if they're significant at all...

Yeah, you have to put it in the form a*x^2 + b*x + c = 0 (in your example it would be 1*x^2 -1*x -870 = 0), and then use the formula Anteroinen told above (there are always 2 solutions).
In your example:
x1= (1 + sqrt((-1)^2-4*1*(-870))/2*1 = (1 + sqrt(3481))/2 = (1+59)/2 = 60/2 = 30
and the other solution:
x2= (1 - sqrt((-1)^2-4*1*(-870))/2*1 = (1 - sqrt(3481))/2 = (1-59)/2 = -58/2 = -29
