Digressing from Project Karma...
----
You've seen it before. You've heard the stories. You know what to do next.
You empty your pockets. The scanner lets you pass. You step into the next chamber.
Of course, no one has ever gotten this right. And for good reason. Because this cart, with the 25 zeros on the panel in front of you, wasn't built with the rest of the system.
Wait, what? Of course it was, you say.
But I say differently. Why would it need to be built? A control panel with 25 zeros doesn't need to be used by sub-bots. Do sub-bots need eyes to see a panel? To type in a combination manually? Of course not.
Nope, you've been lied to again. This box was placed here by Murtaugh himself. Made to look like part of the Edge. Of course he wanted you to end up in the cliffs, anyway.
There is no correct combination. Anything you put in will be wrong. It's how he programmed it.
But as we know, Murtaugh's creations aren't perfect.
You pick five of the zeros and expect the message "fail/retr disabled/proceed/ext" to flash on the red screen. For the cart to drop down to the cliffs below. But the words never appear. Something has gone wrong.
This deep red screen will accompany you for the rest of your life. Lighting up your struggle to pry the perfectly smooth doors from the flawless walls. Lighting up your terror as you try to scratch messages into the floor with your fingernails. Lighting up your anguish as you try to bash the doors open with your legs, your head, anything.
It lights up your life.
