familiar situation, Enihcambus.
I had the same situation twice. But there wasn't menace of stabbing or shooting.
When it happened first time, I wasn't prepared for this. I couldn't even imagine it would happen with me in life. It was my first experience with "brutality of adult life"... I was beaten, but nothing horrible. They was just young fuckers who wanted to be alike adult criminals.
When it happened second time, two years later, I knew what to do, to not show your fear. I think it worked, because those shits went away.

Then again, most cities have these kinds of areas. Still, I only even know of one time it's happened to someone I know... Fortunately, the dog he was walking was of sufficient proportions to object, resolving the whole thing rather quickly.

Only in certain parts of America. I live in upstate NY, the worst I've ever seen is my friends succumbing to smoking pot (I should consider myself lucky, comparatively)
Hopefully your dog is alright, +rep for sticking up for yourself and handling the situation maturely.

Probably the worst that happens around here is robberies. Like, once our house got robbed while my mom was having tuition here, so the students and me and my brothers locked ourselves in my room while my mom was threatened with a knife. Luckily nothing really bad happened.
