Yes, but I blame the Americans for changing British English so much that it's common to speak And be taught American English.
However, considering that it really doesn't matter what you say unless they understand it...I get your point.

EDIT: just realised that knowing well Chinese and English and being native of Spanish, I am already able to understand more than 1/3 of the world
