Books!
Re: Books!
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is one of the craziest books I've ever read, and it was quite good for it. It's narrated by the Chief in the book (my brother told me he didn't know that after he watched the movie) which means it has a narrator who is literally insane, which makes for quite an effect. Apparently Ken Kesey, the author of the book, wrote much of the book while high on hallucinogens just so he'd have a less sane outlook, then edited it so that it made more sense.
I actually read a book called The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test that was written about Kesey and the group he headed, the Merry Pranksters. He had the weirdest life imaginable. His real life was only about one notch less crazy than One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Re: Books!
Just finished The Great Gatsby.
A slight disappointment. It left me quite distant in a way, I never really got into it. You know when you're reading a really good book you just can't put it down because you absolutely need to know what happens next? I didn't feel it with this one
Oh, well. Moving on to The Tempest by Shakespeare. Haven't read any Shakespeare or other plays before. Should be interesting

I havne't got that far yet but I am reading the book.
My first Stephen king novel. I was always more of a Edgar Allen Poe person, but I love how King added his story The the Masque of the Red Death.

"Unmasking And Dancing at Midnight. August 29, 1945."
And later, at midnight, Derwent himself crying
"Unmask! Unmask!" The masks coming off and...
(The Red Death held sway over all!)

So it's like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (haven't read, seen the movie), except I don't believe Thompson was on hallucinogens while writing it, but the characters - yes.zombyrus wrote:One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is one of the craziest books I've ever read, and it was quite good for it. I hope knowing who the Narrator is doesn't spoil the book for me...even though I've seen the movie anyway.
I've wanted to read Twelth Night for the last 5 yearsJust finished The Great Gatsby.

Gatsby: Strange you never got into it...It was a pretty fast read for me, like I've said. I guess it's just preference.
@WorldisQuiet: I've never seen that video, lol.
I've seen the movie for that, but haven't read the book. I think you spoiled it for yourself with that video

My friend thinks the film was made at the "Stanley Hotel" for Stanley Kubrick...I think he really loves the movie, lol.

Re: Books!
But it was not the like the novel so far.
I have not spoiled it for myself.
I have already figure out that when Jack dies, Wendy and Doc are gone, the Overlook will explode from the boiler not being check on.
This was not from someone telling me but from logically figuring it out when they mention how the boiler like to "Creep"
I have not even got that far.
I'm that good.
There was not even a Maze, there was a topiary in the book.
You can call the movie what you want, it already something all on its own.
But you cannot say the movie is the book.
You end up lying to yourself when you think that.
The movie did not scare one bit at all.
The book is getting my heart racing over an antique emergency fire hose that is not even doing anything.

Re: Books!
Going to pick up another Jack Reacher book after finishing Echo Burning. Whoo, what a crime drama.
Anyone seen the movie adaptation? It was based on One Shot, which I haven't read yet, but felt just like a Jack Reacher novel. Tom Cruise, as crazy he might, sure know how to act when he really in for it.

Re: Books!
Speaking of crime books, I read The Maltese Falcon a year or so ago. It's pretty good and I think it's really easy to reference (I often describe things in my head as being "like the Maltese falcon") but I can't do anything with it because nobody else has read it.

It's a movie too, I think more people are aware of the movie

Re: Books!
I think people have heard of the movie, but I don't think I know anyone who's seen it. Not even my dad, who's a huge Humphrey Bogart fan. He believes that Casablanca is the single greatest movie in history.

Re: Books!
Just an update: Haven't finished The Amber Spyglass, but I couldn't find Fareinheit 451 on my Library's listing, so I bought it on eBay for $1.75 (plus $3 shipping, but okay...)
