Does the onion, OIV, Vortex, xetroV and Onixionvortex war off-top?
BTW, about the location thingy:
We will only have knowledge of the Layer 5 one, because of its story, meaning and porpuse in sub9.
About the others:
L1: it looks like 157, 378, fma, hlp, etc. But those are unknown also.
L2: Its other of sub's cultural influences, plus a strange half day, half night.
L3: Life, are you not happy if see that.
L4: Just sewers, something common in submachine.
L5: explained above.
L6: Weird.
L7: Even more weird.

Locations without purpose.
Locations unconnected to the plot.
Locations that I don't know who made them. Why. When. What are they.
It is no clue. Puzzles, and what we do here aren't connected to what are they. It would not change anything if the game was set somewhere else.
To that point we always had at least small explanations what are the locations, and why are we exploring them. And now...
All of that was intentional (I think), it was one large puzzle with the main goal being (although the player does not find out till after) to open the gate in layer 5. The other layers are completely irrelevant, regardless of us visiting them. All of it was one big puzzle, and every once in a while the game reveals a general plot hint that are unrelated to the location, but related to the overall plot. The exploration was very brief after all, so it does not make sense to come up for a story and/or purpose for each. It would reveal too much and wouldn't have been worth the effort.
