When Murtaugh put his arm into the waterfall, he noticed that he no longer had an arm, but seven of them. That was not something unexpectable.

What is a miracle, though, is that after he removed his arm from the waterfall - he still could see all seven layers of his left arm.

Not longer after that he understood, that focusing them all in one place created a portal. That was because all of his arms from all of the layers met at one place and caused he interdimensional karma flow at his fingertips.

When the "Murtaugh" from the other layers all where at the same place, which was the Kent Falls. they all put their arm into one of the Waterfall at the same time.

That picture, it shows how the "Murtaughs" can "Focus".

I wonder if it is possible that the 8th layer is just a combination of all the 7 layers, and that's why when Murtaugh put his arm in the waterfall, it no longer existed in the other layers and became an eight layer object, making it invisible to someone from any one layer and also allowing Murtaugh to create karma portals (Because the layer of light is made up of energy released from moving through the other layers, his arm is basically pure energy, which can allow him to manipulate the fabric of space in the submachine world by just burning holes in it).

And thats why I think is not good idea to tie Layer 8 with other layers, so thats why we have to untie the knot.

The 8th is the layer of light, specifically white light. White light is the combination of all colors.

7 colors, every layer is a color.

But really, I was just kidding about the rainbow thing. The important part is that layer 8 is all the layers combined, and white light is all colors combined. So it's not a real rainbow, it's more like.. a metaphorical rainbow.
