my dad has been addicted since 12 but he finally decided to stop aged 45
he hasnt smoked another one ever since

I know its possible. I'm just saying it isn't easy. Ask any former smoker, they'll tell you. I'm sure your dad didn't just quit cold turkey one day, I'm sure he tried a few times over a period of a few years and then finally accomplished it. And be sure to ask about the withdraw symptoms too. Mine are usually: Stomach aches, headaches, extreme thirst, nausea, depression
