You make a good point. I have thought about it before, and I reached the conclusion that it has a minimal effect in the main vote computation. If you think about it, none of the final positions would be altered if we add or remove the same amount of points to every contestant, and this is because the final results are determined by order (barring ties). So for example, giving 14,8,3 points in your vote should have the same effect as giving 17,11,6 points. The only issue is that it limits the variability of the votes for people with more fanarts, but I think there is no way around that issue that doesn't give unfair advantage to them.Apocrypha wrote:Also, I've spotted a problem with this voting setup: People who have submitted more fanarts have a greater chance of winning. And that doesn't have anything to do with the quality of their work.
For this contest, for example, if you submit only one fanart then the highest point value you can give to someone else's work is 16. But if you submit three, then the highest value you can give to another work is 14. Therefore if you submit more stuff it's impossible for you to give the same amount of points to someone else who might give to you because they submitted less work.
Sort of like the problem posed by cross-country racing if you took the requirement of 4 or 5 scoring runners out, but reversed.
Where it makes a crucial difference is in the tie breaking system, since then the highest values themselves do matter. What I could do to fix this problem is to change the rules so the maximum value is always 17 (or the total number in the general case); what this would mean is that people with fanarts would start counting from 2,3 or 4 depending on the number of fanarts they submitted. I'll have to think about it, the rules will probably be changed by the next issue. Thanks for bringing it up!
I see, not voting would give them unfair advantage. That would also require that the submitter is registered to the forum before the voting period ends, but it's not like that would be much of a hassle to do. I'll change the rules on this too. Also, now that I think about it, we should make a rule that if you submit work, you must also vote.

I feel bad for giving certain ones so low points. Not lying, I literally didn't dislike any fanart, so it was a very difficult decision to make. Good luck to everyone!
